We have an active Toddler room in the nursery and offer a variety of exciting activities to challenge and extend the learning for the children. These activities are planned by the staff based around the child’s interest, individual plans and the EYFS. There is also a free flow feel to the room where they have the opportunity to engage in an activity of their own choosing.
We do have a structured routine in the room which allows the children understand what’s happening next, however, we do alter the routine if we feel it would benefit the children. Such occasions may include tea outside on sunny days or a walk to the local parks. Our activities include plenty of craft and sensory experiences. We have a sensory tray where the children have many textures to explore from grainy sand to gloopy slime. There is also an art easel available for mark making. We enjoy a weekly music and movement session with an outside company. This enables the children to get active and learn new songs as well as introducing them to the idea of following simple instructions.
We spend certain times of our day involved in group activities such as story times, song times or ring games where the children have the opportunity to develop their relationships with their peers. The children are all encouraged to participate and have a choice of which activity we do together. During these times we will introduce the children to phonics. The Toddlers go into the garden everyday in all weathers. We enjoy experiencing different types of weather. There are many aspects of our garden available for the children to explore. These include equipment to climb, bikes and scooters to ride and a mud kitchen where plenty of mud cakes are created.
As a room we foster good relationships with the parents and are always on hand to offer support and advice to ensure their child has the best experience of their early year’s education.
